Don't Move Your Furniture and Other Nonsence. . Making fun of myself

Image
Three tales 1  When we visit our friends Ashley and Donna; or Ron and Char, Cooper loves to roll over and give his back a workout on their occasional rugs. So I bought one for him.   Of course he doesn't roll over.  He thinks that it's an extension to his bed. 2    Cooper loves the splash pool in the Dog Park at Arlington. I bought one for him. Do you think that he splashes?  Not a chance. He gets in and gets out, maybe to clean his feet before entering our home? Please excuse this repeated photo' 3  I am a restless sleeper, so my PCP recommended that I use a recliner.  It's helpful, and it works well with my CPAP machine. My mouth gets dry ,so I have a ready supply of hard candy on which to suck during the night. I toss the wrappers wherever, sometimes in my sleep. I moved the recliner to make room for C's rug.   This is what I saw.                 Ignorance is bliss.  Don't move your furniture!

A Family I Knew Some 68 Years Ago

Image
The e-mail came out of the blue.  Its substance had to do with the imminent closure of a Gospel Hall - the temporal meeting place of an independent evangelical congregation in which I was raised.                                                   Photo' blurred for privacy This family was also part of that local church. The son of the family has solicited some of my memories of life in the Gospel Hall.   I'll be glad to send them. Back to the family.  The photo' stirred up some non-church memories. A rabbit in a Cemetery. The crack in a cemented wall. A new pair of glasses. The death of Pope Pius XII                         That's it for now!

His Own Paddling Pool

Image
Cooper loves to splash around in the paddling pool at the dog park  (Arlington Park). Now he has his own pool.  He's not sure if he likes it -   something new in our car port.    But, with help from me, he was willing to try it.

Falling Again!

Image
My first fall was some years ago.  Zion and I had taken an early morning walk.   He did his business on the grass but instead of turning around I walked backwards onto a roadside drainage culvert, and down I went. Then some three years ago, sans chien, I miss-stepped on a railway footbridge in Nottingham, UK.  Down I went. Thank you to the railway employee who helped me to my feet and would not leave me until I was safe and sound in my seat.  My arm  bled from Nottingham to Bristol.   What a mess. You will remember my recent fall when Cooper made a mad dash and I failed to drop his leash.  Down I went until my Letter Carrier heard my call and came to my rescue. This morning Cooper pulled me fiercely at Arlington Park. He was onto the scent of a Rabbit.  I dropped the leash but in doing so, as the tension was released, I fell to the ground. Cooper ran off.   I landed on my rear end and could not get up. There I was with a wet bottom as the drizzle anointed me. After ten minutes Cooper

The Wonderful Mr. Cooper enjoys a splash at Arlington Park. He's not Zion, but he is wonderful in his own ways.  I am so lucky to have him in my life. I'll be getting a splash pool for my car port, and for his pleasure. Wow.  I have won the Canine Trifecta!

There He Goes

Image
My friends R and C came to my house yesterday. I'd agreed to store some vulnerable items whilst their home is being tented and treated for termites. Cooper knows and likes R and C.  He greeted them at the door, then whoosh, Cooper had taken off to be a free-range dog. Carne Diem! R and C were concerned.    I wasn't.  I knew that Cooper would find his way home. My 'phone rang.  It was my neighbour Bill, who'd seen Cooper on the lam, and had offered my boy a resting place in his front porch. Cooper accepted the offer.   I drove down the street.  Mr C, was glad to jump back into my car for the short ride home. Bill was cool.  He related that his dog Maggie had also made a bolt and ended up in a neighbouring community. Opportunistic Dog.   Great Neighbours. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This is not Cooper - it's one of his doppelgangers who is enjoying a good run.

Running

Image
This morning Cooper took a wee run with our acquaintance Tonie. All was well until he realised that he could not see Papa! Then Tonie had to run him back to me!

My Home City 1940

Image
The bombed remains with a few retaining walls after the blitz of 24 November 1940 was all that was left of the city's famous Castle Street junction with Peter Street which was a continuation of Mary-le-Port Street, running through to the end of Narrow Wine Street. The part from the Castle Street junction to Narrow Wine Street was known as Little Peter Street. The cobbled Church Lane, which was along the side of Melhuish's Hotel, was Bristol's last medieval thoroughfare which had retained its original width. Only the News Theatre, Bear and Rugged Staff, part of Llewellin’s & James and the shell of St Peter's Church remained, but today, only the church shell.

At Rest (near me of course)

Mr Cooper Freedom and Fear

Image
Cooper had a romp in a dog park yesterday morning.  He sniffed every square yard (I exaggerate).   Off leash he romped and raced. He stood in a paddling pool twice. The third time he sat, splashing to his heart and body's content. Later in the morning we were sitting outside our home.  A huge crane made a lot of noise as an air-conditioning unit was hoisted to the roof of a neighbour's house. My dear boy trembled uncontrollably. He at first pushed himself between my knees, then hid under my chair. Mr. C is not bothered by the noise of thunder or of fireworks. The noise made by large trucks bothers him greatly. My dog trainer suggested that singing to C might alleviate his anxiety.   I can carry a tune, so I will. This is what I will sing  (especially the chorus). https://youtu.be/cGa3zFRqDn4

Resting by his favourite toy. This morning, he came with me when I took some Mama G's Linzer cookies to my near neighbour, the fabulous   Rose Marie. She has a twenty or so pounds weight dog named Heidi.   Guess what? My big boy Cooper and Rose Marie's wee girl Heidi truly liked each other.
