How to Say Goodbye. Thank you Jack and Pat McLaughlin; and Goodbye to Chris

When St. Stephen's, Pittsfield MA parishioners Jack and Pat McLaughlin (100% good people) told us that they would be moving to Wolfboro' N.H. I took them out for dinner.

I said, "we will miss you so much".  "All very well" said Pat, "but we'd love it if people first said "I/we are very excited and pleased for this new phase and adventure of your lives"

Point well taken.  We can count on Pat to be gently direct!

I remembered this yesterday.

I was at my Dermatologists Office yesterday.

The good, cheerful and competent Derm Technician named Chris told me that as it happened this was her final day in her work.  She is all set for a new adventure, to be a Teacher's Aide in a school for children with special needs.

I remembered Jack and Pat.   Before I said anything else I expressed my joy for her; and my admiration and respect as she embarks on a new mid-life career.   I added sort of P.S. "and I'll miss you"

After my appointment with her and with the Dermatologist she asked me to wait a while.

I stood at the checkout desk and she danced down the corridor.  She danced down so that we could have a farewell hug.  Wow!   And how lovely that I happened to have an appointment on her final day
