  • Coat: Newfoundlands have a thick double coat to warm them in cold environments. Coat colors include black, brown, grey, and Landseer (white with black markings). However, the Landseer is sometimes considered a separate breed or breed variety.
  • Temperament: Gentle, patient, and loyal
  • Grooming: Moderate
  • Exercise: Low to moderate
  • Training: Early and consistent training is recommended
  • Health: Relatively healthy but can be prone to some health problems, such as hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia
  • Suitability: Families with children, active adults, and experienced dog owners
  • The most famous Newfoundland in English literature is Nana, the loving and protective nursemaid in J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.
  • Boatswain was the faithful companion of the famous poet Lord Byron. The beloved pup was also the furry muse for Byron’s Epitaph To A Dog.

Not the best of days HELP! A mistake and a fall.

  I arrived in time for my 8:50 appointment with my Dermatologist.   The Receptionist told me that I did not have an appointment.  She checked the records and told me that my appointment is for Tuesday. I knew that.  Then the light dawned.  Up until that moment I had thought that it was Tuesday, not Monday. You'd think that calendars had not been invented! It got worse. I took Cooper for an early pee walk this afternoon.  He lifted his leg to cue. Then he took a strong and mad dash towards a Squirrel.  I fell down.  And great was my fall. Lots of scrapes.  No bones broken. Pictures not in order. Excuse duplicates. No sympathy please - I was foolish. Fortunately, I had an arm bandage to sop up the blood. It looks worse than it is. BUT  1.  I was foolish in two ways. First, I had taken Cooper on a short leash.  I'd have had more control with the double handled long leash. 2. When he made his mad dash, I should have dropped ...
