Take some pressure off your shopping budget, and Resist the Advertisers' Con Jobs re Hair Care and Laundry.

Do you remember when containers of hair shampoo would bear a note to the effect that we should wash our hair with their product once, rinse it, and then wash it again with a second application.

What a con job!  The manufactures liked it 'cause we would use more of their product.  They fooled us into believing that two applications   were better than one, inadvertently suggesting that their product was not that good!

The conning continues. Who in the heck believes that "fresh greens" enhances the quality of a shampoo?

It gets worse

We are led to believe that our hair also needs "conditioner" as well as shampoo.

The silly thing is that after applying "conditioner" we immediately rinse it off!  Amazing -  the "magic" works in thirty to forty seconds

The truth is that nothing we apply to our hair conditions it.

Conditioner may add a temporary lustre - that's all. But it does not make our hair more healthy.

As I rant  (with a grin on my face) I point out another advertising con job.

Most of us own, or have access to a modern washing machine.  Hot water and  a small amount of detergent does the trick.***

Or so you'd think,  except that we are led to believe that our laundry also needs  (here's that word again) conditioner.

Stuff and nonsense!   It's as if wore garments made of hessian/burlap which needed a bit of softening for comfort.

And just like hair conditioner laundry conditioner is rinsed out before our clothes get to the dryer.

Oh yes,  the dryer. It cannot work well unless we add

The great thing  (we are told) is that these sheets reduce the risk of harm from  that great enemy "static cling".

The sheets do add a bit of scent to our laundry as if it still had a stink after being washed and rinsed.

Lucky are those who are able to dry the laundry outside - sheets thus dried do have that natural fresh air smell.  Outside drying is forbidden in most apartment and condominium buildings.  Wouldn't want the neighbours to see your skivvies!

P.S.

***  I suspect that many of us add more detergent than is necessary. Unless we are farmers, gardeners, auto mechanics, heavy industry workers, or participants in muddy sports there is not much inground dirt on our clothing.

For my weekly wash of sheets, towels, clothing etc. I do not use detergent.  Very hot water does the trick.  (Please keep this confidential!)
