Stately Gentlemen (and Ladies?)
Immediately to the east of my home in Glen Oaks Ridge, Sarasota is the three hundred acre City owned Bobby Jones Golf Complex.
It had fallen into terrible disrepair. However the City of Sarasota voted to make it a Conservation area and to replace the former two 18 hole courses (one British/one American) with one 18 hole course , and to deed and develop the spare land as a nature trail for all of us.
We should be so lucky! This land could have been sold for "development".
The Bobby Jones complex also includes a nine hole Executive Course. That too will be renewed, but at a cost.
The cost is that a flood retention pond is being drained, and will be filled in. Fish deaths abound.
The lore is that those stately birds the Wood Storks have an appetite for dead or dying fish.
I think that is is so.
