Fort DeSoto County Park is a gem of unspoiled, and deliberately not "developed" coastal land in South West Florida.


My Cambridge MA friends Pat and Laurie are having a wee vacation in Dunedin FL, so we met at the County Park,  about half way between Dunedin and Sarasota.  We each took a picnic lunch.

Pat is the Minister of Music Extraordinaire at St. James's, Cambridge MA.  (The Revd.) Laurie is an Episcopal Priest.

At one time I asked Laurie to join the Parish team as Minister for Christian Education.  She asked  "do you really want a husband and wife on the team"?   Of course I did. Such is their professional and personal integrity that I knew they wouldn't chew over parish staff matters at home.




... and a Dog!  P and L are old pals of Zion.  They met him when they were in SRQ a few years ago; and Z was new to me.

I thought of other meetings at the Park.

One with my Cambridge friend Mary C. when we rented bicycles for an hour or so to enjoy the Park.  Mary's skill and stamina far exceeded mine.

Another time I hooked up with friends from my Fitchburg days.  Penne was then my dog.  She and I met a host of Tienhaara family members. Blessed memories.

And just last March (2022) with my BLM friends Anne and Joe, and Joe's grand-daughter Sara.  Joe, Anne live in Napierville IL . They and I are part of  weekly ZOOM group, but we'd never before met in the flesh.  Sara works for the Sarasota Orchestra and in her spare time sings and fiddles with a Bluegrass Band "Stumble Creek"

But wait there is more.

In March 2023 my Cambridge friend and former colleague Judy B. will visit our mutual friends Ron and Char, who live in St. Petersburg FL

Guess where we will meet?

Not the best of days HELP! A mistake and a fall.

  I arrived in time for my 8:50 appointment with my Dermatologist.   The Receptionist told me that I did not have an appointment.  She checked the records and told me that my appointment is for Tuesday. I knew that.  Then the light dawned.  Up until that moment I had thought that it was Tuesday, not Monday. You'd think that calendars had not been invented! It got worse. I took Cooper for an early pee walk this afternoon.  He lifted his leg to cue. Then he took a strong and mad dash towards a Squirrel.  I fell down.  And great was my fall. Lots of scrapes.  No bones broken. Pictures not in order. Excuse duplicates. No sympathy please - I was foolish. Fortunately, I had an arm bandage to sop up the blood. It looks worse than it is. BUT  1.  I was foolish in two ways. First, I had taken Cooper on a short leash.  I'd have had more control with the double handled long leash. 2. When he made his mad dash, I should have dropped ...
