The Car Rental Game
Why are mattresses always on sale? Why do they never have a price tag? Why are Furniture Stores always having Inventory Sales? What does "Every Thing Must Go" mean?
Why is renting a car shrouded in mystery?
First the good news. It seems that car rental companies are no longer pressing customers to purchase expensive and un-necessary additional Insurance.
The "Upgrade" scam continues. Last Friday at the Enterprise Logan Airport facility I was told that they did not have the Mitsubishi Car I had ordered in stock. Well maybe. "I'll check downstairs" said the Clerk "maybe we have one there". WOT?!nge,
Then he began to talk upgrades. "NO" - my answer was well rehearsed. Then another Clerk asked if I'd take the Nissan Versa which was coincidentally parked nearby. "Only" I said "if there is no extra charge". Their wasn't.
Back at Logan on Monday when I returned my car the Clerk told me that there would be additional charges. I didn't check the fine print as I was anxious to get on the Shuttle 'Bus and to my exiting Terminal.
The extra charge was $68.55. You'll see the fine print above. Some of the extras are exceedingly strange.
FOR INSTANCE
Customer Facility Charge for three days $18
Highway Transponder Charge $8
Concession Fee (what?) $14.13
Conv Ctr Fin Schg ( whatever that is!) $10
Pkg Viol Schg (???) $ 00.60
Police Training Fee $7
Vlc Rec Fee $6.45
What a game! How can I escape the thought that I and other renters have been "had".
